Garver Feed Mill
When the City of Madison issued an RFP to developers for their ideas on what to do with the old Garver Feed Mill, The Alexander Company selected Aro Eberle to help form the architectural vision for their proposal. The “Garver Event Center” proposal envisioned keeping most of the existing spaces in tact to host a wide variety of events. The concept was simple: preserve the character that the building has acquired and exploit the unique environment it creates.
Programmatically, the building needed additional space to support pre-event functions. Therefore, our design included the addition of a lightweight glass lobby that floated within a natural indentation of the building’s existing form. Surrounding the entire lobby, the graffiti that adorns the exterior walls now became the main focus of the interior decor, highlighted by daylight let in around the perimeter of the lobby.
The event center could support a banquet of 800 people, exhibits with up to 40 vendors, art shows, competitions, and much more.
