For owner / chef Shinji Muramoto’s second restaurant, Muramoto Hilldale required a plan that was open, simple, sophisticated and contemporary. The storefront expresses a bold simplicity, with glass vitrine displays embedded within natural wood columns. The understated exterior is a vivid contrast to the market retail storefront context. The contrasting façade is a form of advertisement, the storefront is the sign. Muramoto Hilldale has become of the most successful restaurants in the region, and received the highest regional award for design: AIA Wisconsin Honor Award. The design also received the Best New Development award from the InBusiness Commercial Design Award competition.
